Treetop Walk Hainich
Hainich National Park is home to the largest contiguous deciduous forest in Germany and is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The famous treetop walkway takes you to a height of 44 metres, right through the canopy.
About 54 kilometres southwest of our guesthouse lies Hainich National Park – a unique natural paradise that has been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2011. Here, Germany's largest contiguous deciduous forest grows largely undisturbed.
The highlight for visitors is the treetop walkway with its 44-metre observation tower. The 540-metre-long path leads barrier-free through the different layers of the forest – from the forest floor up into the canopy. From above, a fascinating view opens up over the endless leafy roof.
At the national park centre near Thiemsburg, visitors learn all about the beech forest ecosystem. The interactive exhibition captivates adults and children alike. Several hiking trails of varying lengths lead through the national park.
The Hainich is an unforgettable nature experience, especially in spring when the forest floor is covered with wild garlic and wood anemones, and in autumn with its vibrant foliage colours.
Unser Tipp
Plan a full day for the Hainich. Combine the treetop walkway with a hike on the Feensteig trail or the Brunstal nature trail. In spring, the wild garlic hiking trail is especially worthwhile.
